As a horror aficionado, CreepIECon 2024 was circled on my calendar in blood red. Let me tell you, it lived up to the hype and then some! Held last February at the Ontario Convention Center, this convention, while not as sprawling as other cons, still packed a lot of punch.
One of the highlights for me was seeing some of the legendary actors who have brought iconic horror characters to life such as: Adriene Barbeau, Pancho Moler, Bonnie Aarons, and Doug Jones. The highly publicized stars to meet were the cast of the movie Scream and the original cast of the 1974 Texas Chainsaw Massacre, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the movie. There were numerous other celebrities and icons of the genre to meet. My favorite star to meet was Felissa Rose, most known for her iconic role in Sleepaway Camp (own blog post to follow).
It was also great to visit the Art’s Sideshow exhibit (@arts_sideshow), which included cosplayers @socal_leatherface and @rug.rat22 both known for their strong social media and event presence in the fandom of horror. The exhibit included homages to: Scream, The Nun, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Hellboy, and The Exorcist. Art’s Sideshow Prop Museum of Horror is located in Montclair, California.
Also present was @fearfarmhaunt providing a circus themed haunt for con goers to explore. Other photo op installations were dedicated to the movies, The Ring and The Ghoulies. Another notable installation was provided by @real.pizza.planet.truck, a full size replica of the vehicle from Toy Story and @mrfloats, a Pennywise cosplayer with his own vehicle to add to the spooky vibes. Both of these made for great photo ops and interactions. Lastly, if you are interested in gaming, one of the halls included an arcade.
While this con did not provide panels, it still provided a lot of entertainment. I appreciated that it was easier to find parking compared to other cons, and had many Southern California local vendors and cosplayers. A second convention will be held in September of this year entitled CreepIECon Aftermath and it has already been advertised that it will include panels this time around.
If you attended CreepIECon, share your experience. If you plan on attending Aftermath in September or have questions, let us know below!
