Beetle House LA

To celebrate my birthday, Paul and I ate dinner at the Beetle House LA restaurant. Beetle House is a restaurant and bar located in Hollywood dedicated mainly to the works of Tim Burton and the horror genre. Additionally, the restaurant decor is heavy on the macabre and spooky vibes. If you are looking for a place to be embraced by the macabre and spooky vibes I recommend this restaurant.

We arrived at Beetle House close to sundown and were greeted by their hostess Mars. Mars is welcoming and easily found our reservation and checked us in. On both the inside and outside, there are again numerous photo opportunities. We had a reservation and the restaurant was not quite full but by the time we left it was filling up. There is a full bar but if you want restaurant seating, the restaurant recommends making a reservation. No reservations are needed for the bar as it is open seating. The restaurant offers a three course prix fixe meal, which includes an appetizer, main course, and dessert.

Each course has a few options to choose from. I think the food tasted alright, nothing of fanfare but was not terrible in any sense. I enjoyed the restaurant more for its ambience than for its food. During our meal, we were visited at our table by several Tim Burton movie characters, including Beetlejuice himself, Emily the Corpse Bride, and Lydia Deetz. In addition to visiting tables to chat and take photos, all of the characters also put on performances.

On any given day you will not have the same performers, characters, and performances. When there are no performances, music is played by a DJ and screens play scenes from various horror films to add to the ambience. From the bathroom, to the bar, entrance and tables, the entire restaurant fits with the theme of not just Tim Burton but horror and spooky atmosphere. There are various backgrounds and opportunities to take photos. I really enjoyed the whole spooky setting and look forward to visiting on another night to see who I might run into the next time around.
